Niksar Faculty of Applied Sciences and Niksar Vocational School of Higher Education organised the conference titled "Reading Çanakkale through the Present Day" with the participation of Prof. Dr. Muhittin DEMİRAY, Secretary General of our University and faculty member of the Department of Political Science and International Relations. In the opening speech of the conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatih SOBACI emphasised the purpose of the programme and said: "Our heroes who wrote the epic are still alive, it is very important for us to understand the spirit of Çanakkale and the great will that says 'I order you to die' so that we do not die without living"; while our dean Prof. Dr. Ahmet GÜVEN said: "We commemorate with mercy and gratitude all our martyrs who ran to defend the homeland without thinking, even though they knew that they would be martyred a little later". Conference speaker Prof. Dr. Muhittin DEMİRAY, in his speech, stated that the way to understand the events in many places, especially in Palestine and Syria, is to read and understand Çanakkale correctly, and emphasised the breadth of Turkey's heart geography. DEMİRAY stated that our country harbours different beauties together like a rug, that the spirit that keeps Çanakkale alive is fed by this richness and that our young people should know these in order for these richness to live forever. The programme ended with the presentation of certificates of appreciation.
